Behavioral Health & Psychiatry

Mental health is health. Same team. Same chart.

Case management, therapy, and medication management, integrated with your primary care. You don’t have to repeat your story to a new team across town — your provider, your therapist, and your psychiatrist share one chart and one plan.

What's Included

A real team, not a referral list.

Behavioral health is one of the hardest things to access in our community. We’ve built the team to make it doable: licensed counselors, social workers, and a psychiatric provider, all working alongside your medical team.

  • Counseling and therapy for adults, teens, and kids
  • Psychiatric evaluations and medication management
  • Same-day brief interventions when a crisis comes up at a medical visit
  • Substance-use counseling, including support during Office-Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT)
  • Grief, anxiety, and depression support
  • Case management and community resource navigation
  • Coordination with outside therapists, psychiatrists, or schools when needed
  • Telehealth visits available for most behavioral health appointments
How It Works

Care that doesn’t get lost between offices.

If something comes up at your medical visit that needs a counselor, our provider can usually walk you to a behavioral health team member that same day for a short conversation. That’s the warm handoff. It’s the difference between leaving with a referral phone number and leaving with a real connection.

Longer-term counseling is scheduled like any other appointment. Most counseling sessions happen at Melrose Avenue or via telehealth from wherever you are.

If medication is part of your treatment, our psychiatric provider works alongside your counselor and medical provider. Everyone is looking at the same chart.

Common Questions

Things people
often ask.

Still wondering about something? Call (540) 362-0360.

Is what I share with my therapist private?

Yes. Mental health records are protected by strict federal privacy laws. Information is shared within your care team only if you give permission, and never with anyone outside it without your consent.

Do I need a referral from my primary care provider?

No. You can ask for a behavioral health appointment directly. If you’re already a New Horizons patient, just call.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes. Our psychiatric providers can evaluate and prescribe medication when it’s part of the right plan for you. Medication and therapy are often combined.
